11/16/2005: "I'm Back"
Wth lots of apologies and thankyous to people who have asked me why I have not been updating this blog recently. I have to admit that there is no real good reason, just that the summer and autumn have been so beautiful, that spending any more time indoors than I absolutely had to was unbearable.
Well now it is cold, windy, icy and snowy outside, and the writing in continuing.
There are so many political pundits out there these days, and so much of what everyone is writing is out and out falsehoods, or else so self evident as to seem trivial, that it did not seem attractive to jump into the mud with everyone else. What I have been doing, is listening to a lot of old music. One verse from Bob Dylans “It’s Allright Ma” keeps running through my head.
Old lady judges watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn't talk, it swears
Obscenity, who really cares
Propaganda, all is phony..
Bob wrote this about the 1960’s but it just seems that it would be difficult to write something more timely.
The revelations about New Orleans, Tom Delay, Hailburton, Exxon’s largest corporate quarterly profit in history, and the blatant lying and theft of the people in power is certainly money swearing. Swearing really loudly.
Now we are not even hiding the ruthless empire swagger. Sure we torture, sure we will use Nuclear weapons to maintain our leadership, of course we will use preemptive war, we will not apologize for any of it. It seems that the one principle that this government is committed to is that they should have unlimited power without any restraints. Power to hold people for years without charges or trials, power to use natural disasters as opportunities to hand profits to our friends, and rearrange the voters to our own advantage.
I had been skeptical of the charges that the Republicans intentionally stole the last election by limiting voting in democratic areas, purging legitimate voters from roles, and even closing polling places early, if too many people of the wrong color showed up. This seemed to cynical, and I do want to believe the best in people. But this pales to the murder committed in the wake of the Hurricanes this fall.
Who can forget the best “Let them Eat Cake” moment of the 21st centrury. Barbara Bush saying that the hurricane disaster was working out pretty well for many of the victims. This woman who has never had to put her children to bed hungry, who has never worried about the safety of her family, and who has never had anything but the best health care that money can buy for herself and her family, makes this statement about people who have lost loved ones, who are sick, thirsty and hungry. Where is the guillotine when it is really needed.
Just making a point of course, I don’t think even Barbara Bush is evil enough to require killing. She is just ignorant, privileged and isolated. This has led to such a total lack of common morality and humanity she can bring herself to actually act the way she does.
Now look at Skooter Libby, or Richard Cheney, or Karl Rove. No I would rather not.
The city elections were just another chapter in the history of our city. I did think it amazing that Robert L, could actually spin the FBI and the Tribune accusing his opponent of corruption as making the election closer! I could probably name more than 37 votes in the 6th ward that Dean lost because of this false charge. There is no question that the FBI in collaboration with the Rats Fib, oops I mean the Star Trib, choose our city government this year.
Enough venting for today. I will start updating here often, at least weekly, I promise.
